How The Cup is Won

The rules are for the Nelson Ledges Cup competition and not for the races in general as they naturally will fall under the GCR.The rules intent companion is a more plan language explaination of what each rule is trying to address.
How points are scored is the key to leveling the field and guarenteeing that the Nelson Ledges Cup is won by on track performance. Specific cars are selected to score points based on qualifying. As an example in a 19 car group where 7 are Northeast Team cars and 12 are Great Lakes Team cars the all 7 Northeast racers and the 7 highest qualifying Great Lakes racers will be scoring in that particular group. The 5 Great Lakes racers in this example not chosen to score points still have a role to play. Every position they finish ahead of a racer from the opposing team is less points scored by the smaller team.
While individual race groups usually have more racers from one division or another the event as whole is historically pretty even. A 24 point margin of victory in the first competition bears this out. Listening to the updated standings session to session on the track PA or on pirate radio can be entertaining as the lead changes back and forth between the two teams.
